Sand Paper and sponges Sand paper and sponges can be used to smooth the repaired area in between coats and when completed. The sandpaper should be at least 100 grit (fine) paper to achieve the desired results. The joint compound sands very easily and should be done gently so that it does not expose the joint tape. A moist sponge can also be used for this task. The wetness of the sponge actually liquefies the top layer of the joint compound and smoothes it out nicely. This is often the best way to get all the scratches out of the repaired area from sanding. |
